Ojon Styling Products!

I was recently introduced to the Ojon hair range and have been using (and loving) the products ever since.  I attended a quick styling session at Estee Lauder HQ a few weeks ago and learnt about what products would best suit my hair and how best to style my locks quickly.

Below is my barnet and I after a quick pamper session using Ojon products!  After washing my hair with the damage reverse shampoo and conditioner at home, I let it dry naturally without any heat and then attended the event, where Erminio (the lovely stylist) used the Damage Reverse Finishing Mist to add some shine, as well as some of the Instant Hair Serum on the ends of my hair to keep it looking sleek whilst also adding some of the Ojon Dry Shampoo to add some texture to the roots of my hair (I haven’t got this product for review but it felt great!).  After three quick minutes my hair looked and felt completely different.

Dry Recovery Revitalising Moisture Mist – This product is best used just after you wash your hair to detangle and lightly condition.  I shake this bottle up and spritz on to my hair (mainly in the areas where my hair tangles a lot) so it helps me comb through a little easier.  I do like to use a heavier serum as well at this point if my hair is particularly tangled.

Dry Recovery Hydrating Smoothing Cream – If I am using any styling tools on my hair (straighteners or curlers), I will run a small amount of this cream through my hair before doing so.  I feel like smoothes my hair and prepares it well for the styling.  This is a very light cream which is fab as it doesn't leave my hair feeling weighed down in product.

Damage Reverse Restorative Finish Spray – I love products which add a bit of shine and gloss to my hair, without leaving it looking greasy or dirty.  This spray works really well as a last step to any hair look – I just spray it all over my hair and my hair instantly naturally shines in the light.

Damage Reverse Instant Restorative Hair Serum – I love to use this serum on the ends of my hair and on any fly a-ways mainly in the mornings before I leave the house.  As this serum is so thin and sinks in so easily, it means I can use it everyday and not just after washing.  It doesn’t leave my hair feeling oily or greasy (you only need a little bit of product), but instead my hair feels soft and manageable.

What I think – I really do like Ojon products and am also addicted to the Dry Recovery Shampoo & Conditioner which I will be reviewing soon.  The smell of these products can be quite strong which some people dislike (I think they smell very natural and smokey smelling) but they do not linger on the hair so it doesn’t bother me!  All Ojon products obviously contain ‘Ojon Oil’, their miracle ingredient which promises to restore radiance, bounce, body and volume to even the most damaged hair.

I do find the Ojon products a little pricey – ranging from £9-25, so I do use them sparingly, but I will definitely be saving up for a few more of these luxury treats for my hair in the future!

Have you ever used Ojon products before? What are your favourite hair styling products?

Jolie Box JULY 2012 Review!

I’m a little late to post about this but I definitely wanted to as I really love the contents of this box and wanted to share my thoughts on it with you!  The July box is all about ‘Summer Essentials’ and preparing yourself for the summer months ahead.
events july 302
JOLIE JULY BOX
events july 311

Etat Pur Pure Active Salicylic Acid 300 – This was the product I was most excited about when I first opened the box.  I am very prone to acne and blemishes if I am ill, stressed or if I use new products on my face.  At the time of receiving this box, I could feel THE biggest under the skin spot on my chin.  These kinda spots last for ages because they never rise quickly (they just stay like a massive lump under the skin which really hurts) and scar my skin pretty badly, leaving me with a red mark for a few months.  I tested this product out straight away, initally applying it three times a day to the blemish, and in just over a week the spot has now completely disappeared and has left me with the faintest mark which is easily coverable with concealer.  I will write a full review up of this product soon because it is amazing!

Jane Iredale Tantasia Self Tanner – This product is perfect for summer and for adding a bit of glow daily to your face or body.  I’ve been adding a tiny bit of this to my cheeks with a blusher brush and it adds the most subtle bronze sheen which I love.

Nailgirls Two Mini Polishes from the Medal Collection – I am a massive fan of metallic, shimmery polishes and these are gorgeous!  I love the fact that you get two shades in this box and I adore the bronze and gold colours; perfect for the Olympics in London!

Wen Sweet Almond and Mint Cleansing Conditioner – I took this away with me to my boy’s house last week to test out as it is the most perfect size for travelling.  This conditioner has a thick texture (which I love because it feels like it is really nourishing my hair) and smells lovely – very minty.  This left my hair soft and easy to brush through despite forgetting to bring a comb to comb through whilst the product was on.

Bonus product – Institut Esthederm Bronz Repair Anti Wrinkle Tanning Cream – I tested this out when I went for a picnic my local park last week.  Instead of using an SPF, I applied this all over my face and I didn’t get burnt at all (despite it being around 25 degrees!).  I’m not exactly sure how this works, but this cream protects your face and body from UVA and UVB rays without containing an SPF?  Crazy, but it must work.  The cream itself feels really luxurious and thick and didn’t bring me out in any spots which is fab!

What I Think – I really have to admit that I have never, EVER, received a bad beauty box from Jolie Box.  Everything included in all the boxes that have been sent by them have been exactly up my street and have been a pleasure to discover and use.  Jolie Box are quickly becoming my favourite beauty box out there and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for the August edition.

What do you think about this Jolie Box?  Which is your current favourite beauty box out there?

Glossy Box July 2012 Contents Review!

July’s Glossybox is all about festival beauty and products which are easy to use on the go.  Read on to see what I received in my box!

GLOSSY BOX JULY
glossybox 006

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil – I was very excited about this product in particular when I opened my box.  I have wanted to try Nuxe products for a long time and in particular this dry oil, which is a multi-use product.  You all know that I like a product which can be used for multiple purposes so this is perfect for me – I’ve already used it as a body moisturizer and am looking forward to using it on my hair too when I get time (as either a serum or a mask overnight for a deep treatment).  I have the worst flu at the moment and can’t smell a thing but from what I can sniff out, it smells pleasant!

Jelly Pong Pong Irish Cream Pavlova Lip Frosting – Although the packaging of this product looks really cheap, the full size of this is actually £10.  The first thing I did notice about this was the smell – even though I have got a blocked nose, I instantly smelt how sugary and sweet this is, which I love.  I am a big fan of sickly sweet scents in lip glosses so this is lovely.  The colour I have is almost a neon pink with the slightest hint of coral.  I like how you can also use this as a cheek colour – another nice multiuse product for when you’re on the go.

Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist – This product really baffled me at first!  I thought Paul Mitchell only made hair products but after researching this I found out that you can also use it on your skin.  This hydrates and moisturizes your skin and helps you revitalise hair styles.  This is a great sized sample so you can really try this out to see what you think.

Monu Night Renewel Complex – I have used a few Monu products in the past and have really enjoyed using them (their body creams are gorgeous) so I am looking forward to testing this out!

Bex SE1 London Urban EDT – As I mentioned earlier, I can not smell a thing, so please do not rely on my judgement of this perfume, but when I first sprayed it I was hit by a mint fragrance, which then transformed to smell a lot like my dentists office.  I will try this again when I am less bunged up and I will hopefully find that it does not leave me smelling like a dentist.

What I Think – I should probably start off by saying that I was sent the wrong product card in my box, so when I read that there was another HD Brows Palette in my box I nearly fainted with delight, only to find there wasn’t one in there!  The other box does look SUPERB – also containing a Clynol Colour Shampoo (probably one my top five shampoos, it is incredible) as well as tan enhancing Monu product, an Elizabeth Arden SPF Lotion and the Jelly Pong Pong Lip Frosting.
After getting over the fact that I wasn’t the proud owner of a Clynol sample sized shampoo and another HD palette (mine is getting used up fast!) then I realised that I the box I received is good and I love all the multiuse products in it.  I’m really looking forward to taking them away with me next weekend (on a trip to Manchester and Edinburgh to see Morrissey in concert!) and putting them up to the test!

What did you receive in your July Glossy Box?  What is your favourite multiuse product?

Sleek i-divine 2012 Palette Review

With less than a week until the start of the Olympics, I thought I’d bring you a review and some swatches of Sleek Makeup’s newest i-divine palette. The 2012 palette celebrates London and the excitement surrounding it hosting the Olympics this year, read on for what I think!

sleek 2012 SLEEK 2012 1  SLEEK 2012 PALETTE

The first thing I love about this palette is the names of the individual eye shadows.  Having lived in London/been on the District line my whole life, it is pretty cool to see the London Underground Tube lines in eye shadow formats.  Secondly, I love the fact that there is a range of neutral shimmery shades (the top row) along with a mix of brights (bottom row) so you can easily add a bit of colour to your look.

My favourite’s in this palette are – Bakerloo, Jubilee, Nothern, Picadilly and Victoria.  I am really disappointed with Platform – the matte grey shade.  It has hardly any colour pay off and no pigmentation.  I also wish Tube, the first creamy gold shade, was a little more pigmented.

The price of Sleek eyeshadow palettes is fab – only £6.99 for a great quality palette.  I think I have every single Sleek palette now (with the exception of two) and I adore them all and use them all the time.  They are great for building up what I like to call a ‘wardrobe of shadows’ to play around with.

What is your favourite shadow/tube line in this palette?  What would you create a palette based on?

MAC Full Coverage Foundation Review

I have been using this cream foundation for the past 6 months or so and it is LOVE!  I don’t know why I hadn’t reviewed it sooner!  For the past four years I had been using the MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC15 as my concealer/foundation.  Obviously, as the pot is so small, I got through so many of them and was on the look out for something similar but bigger.  I had previously tried the liquid MAC Studio Fix Foundation (here) but even though it was NC15, it was way too dark and orange on me.

In the MAC Pro store (just off Carnaby Street) I noticed the full coverage foundation and instantly knew I had to have it.  I have been using it ever since and it is perfect for me.

MAC FULL COVERAGEMAC FULL COVERAGE 2

full coverage FULL COVERAGE 2

COLOUR – This colour is pretty much perfect for my pale skin, which is very rare for me!

COVERAGE – As the name suggests, this really is full coverage – it covers absolutely any flaws on my face, including blemishes, redness, uneven skin tone, dark circles etc.  As I do tend to get a lot of blemishes this coverage is perfect for me.

FORMULA/FINISH – This foundation is a cream and so can be quite thick and cakey if you don’t apply it properly.  I use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush (or my Sigma duo fibre brush) to buff this into the skin so it doesn’t look to thick.  Also because it is a cream it does enhance dry skin (so moisturize well before hand).  I find that applying it with my fingers works really well also, so you don’t end up looking too cakey.

PRICE – I can’t remember the exact price of this foundation but I think it is around £25 and you get 28grams of product.  I think this is good for the size – I’ve been using it for around 6 months and I still haven’t reached the bottom of the pan.

SPF – This doesn’t include any SPF which is disappointing, but I wear a moisturizer with an SPF in daily anyway.

What I think – I would really recommend this to anyone who has acne or are self conscious of blemishes as this will cover them up.  I have never had a foundation like this before which completely perfects my skin before, it is my new holy grail, go to foundation product.  Don’t get me wrong, I still use my L’Oreal infallible foundation for days when I don’t feel like I need too much coverage, but for special occasions or nights out I will always use this!

The only downside to this foundation is that it is a Pro product, meaning it is only available in MAC Pro stores so it isn’t easily accessible for everyone.

What is your favourite MAC foundation?

P.S Pictures above are not edited at all – my skin really does look that airbrushed with just this foundation alone!

Garnier Ambre Solaire with Lorraine Kelly

When an invite to an ‘intimate lunch’ with Lorraine Kelly & Garnier Ambre Soliat popped up in my inbox, I immediately cleared any plans I had that lunchtime so I could meet her and talk sun-cream with her!  The lunch was held in the Corinthian hotel in London (very swanky) and after settled down with some orange juice, the conversation started flowing!

LORRAINE

Lorraine is currently promoting Garnier Ambre Solaire’s ‘Measure your ML’s’ campaign.  After research, Garnier have noticed that people just aren’t applying enough sun cream on holiday to actually work.  The recommend amount to completely protect yourself in the sun, is 6mls, any less and it won’t be doing it’s job properly.

Because of this you need a good suncream which provides you with the UVA & UVB protection that your body needs, but also a product which sinks in quickly and clearly, smells good and doesn’t leave you sticky.  When I went to Marrakech, Morrocco last year, Ambre Solait were the only sun creams I took with me (a SPF 50 & a SPF 30) and they really did the job.

GARNIER SOLAIR
Garnier have bought out a few new sun care products this summer and I’ve been trying a few and know for a fact that I will now use them for years to come.  Firstly, the Golden Protect SPF 30 cream is absolutely incredible and I can tell you now that if you try it, you will love it.  This sun cream contains a luminous, golden shimmer so you can still look fashionable and even sexy whilst applying sun cream and staying protected.

I usually use the spray format of sun creams on holiday just because they are easier, and this year Garnier have bought out a Clear Protect High SPF - Very Water Resistant Spray, which is also transparent and clear so you need not worry about looking like a white ghost when applying SPF.

Finally, there are a few After Suns available.  Photographed above is the 24-hour Moisturizing Soothing Gel with Aloe Vera, but there is also the Hydrating Tan Maintainer (not pictured!), which firstly smells incredible and contains a very low level of self tan which will help you maintain your summer glow.

What is your favourite sun cream range?  How much sun cream do you usually take on holiday?

P.S I can’t express enough how important sun cream is – For the past few years I have been using sun cream daily (especially on my face) even in the winter.  Two years ago I started noticing that one side of my face (the left side) has slightly more wrinkles and looks a little more haggard than the other side.  That is because for my whole life, I have sat on the left side in the family car (on school trips and on holidays) – meaning that side of my face has always been closest to the window and therefore has been exposed to more sun rays.
Please also read this article – you will not believe it!  Please everyone say safe in the sun this summer – having healthy, young, wrinkle free skin is so much better than just having a tan for one summer.

NCLA Nail Polish Swatch – Bell Air Trophy Wife

I am a massive NCLA fan.  I absolutely adore their polishes, their nail wraps and I even adore the woman who created the range (Elin, she is just fabulous).  I have worked for NCLA at a few events in the past (applying nail wraps to press & bloggers) and I always look forward to seeing new additions to their ever-expanding collection.

I thought I’d firstly introduce one of my absolutely favourite NCLA shades to you guys today – Bell Air Trophy Wife.

NCLA orly and ncla

All of the NCLA nail lacquers I have tried have all been of extremely high quality and only two coats are needed for a perfect finish with a great colour.  Bell Air Trophy wife is probably my favourite because it is such a classic, gold metallic shade that it would go with any outfit, jewellery or any other nail polish.  Above I paired it on my ring finger with Orly’s ‘Jealous, Much..?’ for a bit of a statement and I think it works perfectly.

NCLA is available to purchase in Harvey Nichs and a few other salons in the UK (stockists list here).  The only downside is probably the price.  Each nail polish retails at £12.50.  Whilst great for a payday treat, this isn’t so good if you are on a budget but after a great quality product.

Have you tried any NCLA products?  What is your favourite gold nail polish?

MAC Kinda Sexy Lipstick Review & Swatches

I am always on the hunt for gorgeous natural pink lipsticks (even though I have found two which are absolutely perfect for me – Estee Lauder’s Crystal Baby & Sleek’s Barely There).  Even so, after browsing MAC lipstick swatches online I decided that Kinda Sexy looked absolutely gorgeous and I couldn’t wait to try it.

KINDA SEXY

KINDA SEXY LIPSTICK 2

Kinda sexy has a matte finish which I actually find quite hard to pull off.  All of my favourite MAC lipsticks are either Cremesheens or Amplified Cremes which are much easier to wear as they are a little more moisturizing.  As this is a matte shade, it really does stick to any dry patches of skin on your lips and enhances them, so make sure you scrub and moisturize your lips before hand.

The colour itself is gorgeous, a natural warm pink, but I find it is a little too dark for a natural lipstick on my pale skin.  I imagine this would look at incredible on tanned or Asian skin tones, but for me, I feel like I look like a Pamela Anderson wannabe (with her brown lip liner and lipstick) but not in a good way (see below)!

pam anderson lipstick
(Pam Anderson pics from here and here)

Okay, that example may be a bit too extreme, but still, I would adore this shade on me, if it was a little lighter!  I do still love this lipstick and whenever I see people wearing it I always think it looks gorgeous, but I wish it suited me a little more (I will keep trying though, I am determined to make this suit me!).

Do you like MAC’s matte lipsticks?  What is your favourite matte lippie?

MUA Undressed Palette Review & Swatches!

MUA are seriously impressing me at the moment with their affordable and good quality palettes.  I have another one to show you today (you can see my review of the Heaven & Earth palette here, and the Going for Gold palette here) and this one, Undressed, is a dupe for the incredibly popular (but overpriced) Urban Decay Naked Palette.

Read on for swatches and what I think!

undressed palette
undressed 3
undressed palette 2

This palette is pretty much perfect.  It contains the perfect amount of shimmer eye shadows and even a few mattes, in such easy, wearable colours, meaning that it is ideal for everyday use.  This is such an obvious dupe for the UD Naked palette, even down to it’s name (Undressed… geddit?) and I highly recommend it.

What’s best is that this palette is only £4!

What is your favourite MUA palette?  Do you prefer this or the Urban Decay palette?

Nioxin Hair System Kit Review!

Does anyone remember this post were I had a new Scalp Dermabrasion Treatment with Nioxin?  Well, I’m back to share with you my thoughts on the ‘at home’ products after using them for a month!  I’ll start off by saying that as a beauty blogger having a thirst for trying out new products, I find it hard to stick to using just one set of products, especially when it comes to hair care.  BUT, I stuck to my challenge of using Nioxin products for a whole month and you can read on to hear my thoughts below!

NIOXIN

Cleanser Shampoo – The first few times I used this I didn’t like it much at all – I felt like it left my hair quite dry after rinsing it out and wasn’t convinced.  However, after two weeks of using this every time I washed my hair I grew to quite like it.  I think the reason it left my hair quite dry feeling was because it was deeply cleansing my scalp and hair and removing all residues and left over products.  This shampoo has a minty fragrance which helped with making my hair feel squeaky clean.

Scalp Revitaliser Conditioner – Again, like the shampoo I wasn’t convinced at first.  Because the shampoo was quite drying, I felt like I needed a really intense conditioner to help put the moisture back in.  I found that the best way to condition my hair using this product was to apply it literally from your roots to your tip.  Normally, I would just apply a conditioner to the tips/ends of my hair, but because this conditioner is so lightweight then applying it all over works really well.

Hair Masque – I love this hair masque and used it once or twice a week depending on how dry my hair was feeling.  After washing my hair with the shampoo, I combed this mask through my hair from roots to about half way up my hair.  I leave it on for 5-10 mins and then rinse out and it leaves my hair really soft and manageable.

Scalp Treatment Spray – This was the part I was most anxious about trying.  This includes peppermint oil along with extra antioxidants and botanicals to help encourage hair thickness and to stimulate the scalp.  It was explained to me that you need to spray this on your scalp after washing your hair, but only after towel drying, as if your scalp is wet then you might feel a bit of tingling as the product gets to work.  I will be honest and say I was petrified of the pain that was explained to me, BUT after a whole month of using it, having towel dried my hair I haven’t felt any pain or tingling sensations at all.  I spritz this into my roots, massage it about a bit and then leave my hair to towel dry naturally, or blow dry it!

What I think – I definitely think you need to use these continuously over a long period of time to start feeling and noticing differences it makes to your hair.  After using these products for a month my hair feels stronger and definitely a little thicker.  I think the reason it feels thick is because it has been stripped of all residues and grease and therefore is a little drier than usual and therefore feels stronger.  I feel like my hair is a lot easier to style now (in a high bun or plait) because I have more of a texture to work with.  My Mother plaited my hair last weekend and even commented on how she thought it felt thicker!

I don’t have ‘before and after pictures’ as such, but decided to include a few photographs of my hair over the past month – I’ve been curling my hair quite a lot and also wearing a lot of high buns (as they’re much easier to do know my hair is a little thicker and has more texture)! (Also included a sneaky pic of the new man, ain’t he gorgeous!).
NIOXIN HAIR

This three step system is available for 6 different hair types, from coarse, too thin hair so there is a set available for everyone. I used set #5 which is designed for coarse, chemically damaged hair.  The three part system retails for £27.99 and the mask for £16.99.  You can purchase them online and view their stockists here!

Essie – Sexy Divide, Exotic Liras & Bordeaux Swatches!

Many of you will know by now that 2012 marked the launch of Essie in Boots and Superdrug.  I was thrilled when I heard this news (see here) and am glad they have made the range more accessible to us in the UK.  I have a few of the old Essie polishes, but with their new diffusion line comes a new brush which makes applying the polish much easier!

I have three Essie shades to show you today, I hope you like the look of them as much as I do!

ESSIE 1
Sexy Divide – This is such a stunning nail polish and very easy to wear all year round in my opinion.  It’s a deep purple shade which shimmers in the light and almost has a blue two-tone effect.  The only polish I have like this in my collection is Barry M’s Vivid Purple, but it is no way near as beautiful as this!

essie 2
Exotic Liras – This was so hard to get a photograph of as the colour is so gorgeous in real life, but photographs not at all like it’s actual potential.  In a lot of photographs this looks red, but it is actually a deep fuchsia pink.  I think this is a great way to add a bit of colour to your outfit in the summer whilst maintaining maturity and not looking too young and girly.

essie 3
Bordeaux – I am not completely convinced about this nail polish.  I love the colour, which I’d describe as a red wine, but it appears quite sheer on the nail and I’m not a fan – I like my nails to be completely covered by a colour but with this I can still vaguely make out the tips of my nails underneath.  I think it also looks a little streaky in the photographs above.

I have a few more Essie swatches coming up soon so check back for those!  The Essie polishes retail at £7.99 in Boots & Superdrug.

What is your favourite Essie shade?  Do any of these catch your eye?

June Birthday Jolie Box!

I apologise for how late this review is – I blame the fact that I have been spending all of my time with my gorgeous new boyfriend (a good enough excuse I think!) with no time at all to sit down and try out new products.  Anyway, this is the Birthday edition of Jolie Box and the box was especially designed by Mzelle Fraise and includes lots of French themed products and favourites!

IMG_2312 JOLIEBOXJUNE

Yon-ka Pamplemouse Protective and Vitalizing Cream for Normal to Oily Skin – I love that Jolie Box are now starting to personalize their boxes to suit their customers by sending them products that suit their skin type or tone.  My skin is admittedly a little crazy and is dry one minute and oily the next, but as it’s now summer and a little warmer, my face is definitely more oily, so I chose to receive this moisturizer for normal to oily skins.  This is actually quite a generous sized sample containing 50mls of product so you can use this for a while to start seeing the benefits.

Institut Esthederm Bronz Repair Body Lotion – I am always a little hesitant when it comes to fake tan and bronze enhancing products (being as pale as a ghost) so I haven’t yet used this, but apparently when you apply this you boost your skin’s ability to develop a tan.  I’m interested to see if this actually works so when the sun comes out in London I’ll give it a go!

L’Occitane Angelica Hydration Cream – I really love L’Occitane but have never tried their skin care before (only their hand creams) so I’m looking forward to using this.  I adore the packaging and the fact that it is packed with essential oils and organic ingredients!

Elysambre Lipstick – This lipstick looks tiny but is actually full size.  I received a deep, dark red shade which looks a little daunting and scary in the bullet, but is actually very mature and sensual on the lips.

Jolie Box retails for £10 plus £2.99 p&p and the July box should be hitting your doorsteps soon!

What did you think of this Jolie Box?  What is your favourite beauty box on the scene?

MUA Palette Going for Gold Swatches & Review!

There’s not much I love more (makeup wise) than an eyeshadow palette containing 1) gold & brown shades and 2) shimmer!  Therefore, I think it is pretty apparent already that this new palette from MUA is already one of my new favourites.

goingforgoldmua

mua gold

Aptly named ‘Going for Gold’, this 10 eyeshadow palette contains a mixture of gold, browns and grey shadows.  All of them (except for one – bottom row (shade 9), which contains noticeable particles of glitter) is creamy, smooth and easy to work with.  I adore the last shadow on the top row (shade 5), which looks almost orange in the pan but glides on to the skin the most dazzling gold, yellow shade.   My least favourite shade in this palette is the pale grey on the bottom row (shade 6) – it is very light and barely noticeable, however the shimmery dark grey on the end of the same row is stunning and perfect for smokey eyes.

I must say that I love the new square pan design – I think the palette looks much neater and it also looks like you are getting a little more product for your money.

This palette is released in Superdrug stores TODAY and retails for only £4 which is an absolutely bargain.

Will you be picking this palette up?  What is your favourite gold eyeshadow?
