MAC Full Coverage Foundation Review

I have been using this cream foundation for the past 6 months or so and it is LOVE!  I don’t know why I hadn’t reviewed it sooner!  For the past four years I had been using the MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC15 as my concealer/foundation.  Obviously, as the pot is so small, I got through so many of them and was on the look out for something similar but bigger.  I had previously tried the liquid MAC Studio Fix Foundation (here) but even though it was NC15, it was way too dark and orange on me.

In the MAC Pro store (just off Carnaby Street) I noticed the full coverage foundation and instantly knew I had to have it.  I have been using it ever since and it is perfect for me.

MAC FULL COVERAGEMAC FULL COVERAGE 2

full coverage FULL COVERAGE 2

COLOUR – This colour is pretty much perfect for my pale skin, which is very rare for me!

COVERAGE – As the name suggests, this really is full coverage – it covers absolutely any flaws on my face, including blemishes, redness, uneven skin tone, dark circles etc.  As I do tend to get a lot of blemishes this coverage is perfect for me.

FORMULA/FINISH – This foundation is a cream and so can be quite thick and cakey if you don’t apply it properly.  I use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush (or my Sigma duo fibre brush) to buff this into the skin so it doesn’t look to thick.  Also because it is a cream it does enhance dry skin (so moisturize well before hand).  I find that applying it with my fingers works really well also, so you don’t end up looking too cakey.

PRICE – I can’t remember the exact price of this foundation but I think it is around £25 and you get 28grams of product.  I think this is good for the size – I’ve been using it for around 6 months and I still haven’t reached the bottom of the pan.

SPF – This doesn’t include any SPF which is disappointing, but I wear a moisturizer with an SPF in daily anyway.

What I think – I would really recommend this to anyone who has acne or are self conscious of blemishes as this will cover them up.  I have never had a foundation like this before which completely perfects my skin before, it is my new holy grail, go to foundation product.  Don’t get me wrong, I still use my L’Oreal infallible foundation for days when I don’t feel like I need too much coverage, but for special occasions or nights out I will always use this!

The only downside to this foundation is that it is a Pro product, meaning it is only available in MAC Pro stores so it isn’t easily accessible for everyone.

What is your favourite MAC foundation?

xxxxx

P.S Pictures above are not edited at all – my skin really does look that airbrushed with just this foundation alone!

It looks really lovely, your freckles still show through and your face doesn't look flat but it covers blemishes amazingly…! At the moment I'm happy with my Studio Fix Fluid paired with Studio Finish Concealer, but I'll keep that in mind…! x

Looks really good! I tried buying it last summer but the saleslady talked me out of it… Think I'll try again! I don't have as perfect a match in mac though as you have so it mightn't be as good on me. Will see!

It looks great! I actually enjoy no SPF as otherwise you end up with a ghostly face in flash photos.

This looks amazing! I used to use the Studio Fix Fluid and had the same problem as you, NW15 was far too orangey on me! xx

Wow, that looks great on you.

Foundations with SPF will not give you proper protection unless you use the correct amount, which is around 1/4 teaspoon for face (or half teaspoon for face+neck), and many of us do not use that amount of foundation every day. And even if you do use enough product, you might not be protected because many foundations either are not photostable (UV protection deteriorates with time -> you're unprotected after a while), or they only offer UVB protection (UVA protects against pre mature ageing and skin damage).

Looks great on you! I've been using the studio tech foundation. I wonder how comparable it is as they're bothe a cream formula…hmm…

  11. July 20, 2012 / 8:02 pm

You should try Gerda Spillmann Bio-Fond cream foundation. Google it. It's my favourite for when my skin is acting up. When I'm pale, Weekend is the perfect shade when applied wet! Otherwise it's too pink if I don't wet it. I'm fair like you, but this summer I got a tan, so I'm wearing Truffle. There is a small petite compact for $20 and a large for $55 I think. It's also very good for acne-prone skin as it heals it. xx

This looks great! Shame the nearest Mac Pro shop to me is over 400 miles away! Cheeky trip to LDN required I think 😛

I have not found a match from those MAC foundations that would suit my skintype, Studio Fix Fluid and Pro Longwear NC15 were both too dark. Studio Sculpt NC15 instead was a good match, but it did not have enough staying power. That Full Coverage one would probably suit me as well colorwise as cream foundations don't oxidize (L'Oreal Infallible oxidized on me), but I hate cream foundations 😀

Your skin always looks so luminous!

  23. July 23, 2012 / 7:58 am

    Wow, great results.

I've always been wary of MAC foundations as NC15 usually makes me look like an Oompa Loompa, but this looks like it might even be pale enough for me. I'll have to seek it out.

You can buy the full coverage online, or at least you used to be able too.. i have several times. i adore this foundation, you only need a tiny amount and it lasts forever. I have oily, sensetive skin which can easily dehydrate due to the products i use to counteract the oilyness. This foundation covers everything, and doesnt live me shiny, nor does it emphasise my dehydration. Im glad someone else loves it as much as me 🙂

I have never purchased a MAC foundation before but this one looks beautiful on your skin! I really want to try the face and body foundation, I've heard its really nice and photgraphs beautifully

The reason it has no SPF in it as it was designed as a pro products for artistry and so the SPF(titanium dioxide and zinc) cause flashback on photos. But great review thanks for this:) and lovely to see before and after too:) xx

The reason that it has no spf is that its a pro product and designed for artistry and so the SPF or titanium in it would cause flashback on photos. Such an awesome product though!xx
